Electrolytes... it's what plants crave

Every year when the heat sets in, I feel like one of us learns the lesson the hard way that you have to a) hydrate appropriately and b) get enough electrolytes. This year was apparently my turn.

The past couple of weekends on my long runs on Saturday mornings, I have just been destroyed afterwards. A week ago, I took like a 2.5 hour nap after my run and my stress level on my Garmin never went down. This Saturday I felt ok during the day, but when I woke up Sunday I felt exhausted (though staying up to watch Texas lose at baseball didn’t help). I was really wondering what the issue was.

Carrie suggested making sure I had had enough water, and I had done the math, I should have been good. Then she suggested making sure I had enough electrolytes. I took some salt tabs and within a few hours I felt completely different.

So today I had a decently hard run, so I made sure to get my electrolytes in. I will see how well I recover in the morning. That’s really the issue… I wasn’t getting a good recovery the night following the effort.

The devices now are so good at giving you insight into this. It’s really impressive.
