And with last weekend gone, we are not going to have any more free weekends in Austin until mid-October. Now let me be clear, this is not a complaint. We have several fun things lined up over the next few weeks:
- A weekend at Lost Pines resort in Bastrop with some friends
- Our traditional Labor Day weekend at the lake with some other friends
- Several weekends in Baton Rouge, which will probably get filled up with activities since we’re not there very long
- Then the first weekend of October we fly to Spain for two weeks, partly for work, partly for fun
So yeah, world’s tiniest violin and all that. But there is something nice about being at home, getting takeout, and just having a quiet weekend with Carrie and the cats.
On the trip to Spain, I’m getting to go to the MODELS 2026 conference in Malaga, Spain. I haven’t been to the MODELS conference proper in a long time. In 2024, I went for the workshops and smaller conferences beforehand, but didn’t stay for the conference proper. The last time I went was 2019 in Munich. It will be good to be there for the whole week, especially since my job has now really been consumed by MBSE for the first time since I was a postdoc, really.
I’m also looking forward to being in Baton Rouge, even though it’s going to be a quick trip. It will be hot, but usually by the time we leave at the end of September the horrendous heat has finally broken.
August in Austin, TX is just brutal. It’s so hot, anything outside becomes so much harder. There are hours of the day that I really try to avoid going outside at all. But, we’re almost through it, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. If we could just get some rain… (all this sun every day starts to get oppressive)
